MCO Consult Course February 2026
This course strengthens communication skills for pediatric critical care transport. Participants learn to deliver clear, standardized patient reports, anticipate changing needs, and prevent information loss. The course also covers how to address treatment concerns, appropriately escalate care, and use effective communication strategies with partners and medical control to support patient safety in high-risk situations.

Learning Objectives
- Participants will prepare for communication with partner for accurate information, current patient needs, possible patient needs for duration of the transport; when in the process is it best to call report; giving report in a standardized format used universally to prevent loss of information which could lead to medical errors. Participants will apply these communication skills in transport setting.
- Participants will analyze ways to communicate when you feel there is a discrepancy in the plan of treatment, or your concerns are not being addressed by physician and negotiating a plan with multiple priorities. Participants will apply standardized language for conveying a need for escalation in care; who to escalate to when you feel patient needs are not being addressed proprerly; proper protocol to escalate in an emergent situation.
- Participants will analyze recordings of patient reports given to medical control; orders given by medical control; calls requiring escalation of care; calls received by the transport team. Participants will apply skills for communication in the clinical setting.
