Youth Mental Health First Aid
This 6.5-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course focuses on recognizing the patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and appearance that show there might be a problem rather than focusing on specific illness. Participants are taught the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE) that they can apply to non-crisis and crisis scenarios.

Learning Objective 1: Describe the purpose of Youth Mental Health First Aid and the role of the Youth Mental Health First Aider.
Learning Objective 2: Recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use problems that may impact youth.
Learning Objective 3: Explain the impact of traumatic experiences and the role of resilience on adolescent development.
Learning Objective 4: Apply the appropriate steps of the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE) in a crisis and non-crisis scenario.
Learning Objective 5: Practice appropriate methods for self-care following the application of YMHFA in a crisis or non-crisis situation.
