The goal of this activity is to enhance staff nurses’ knowledge, confidence, and skills in caring for pediatric trauma patients. The target audience needs to improve their ability to recognize early signs of decompensation, accurately assess injured children, and identify best practices for both acute management and long-term referral. By strengthening these competencies, nurses can provide safer, more effective care for children with both unintentional and intentional injuries.

Learning Objectives

Learning Objective 1: 

Describe the assessment, management, and monitoring of pediatric trauma patients, including head injuries, thoracic injuries, orthopedic trauma, burns, and wounds.v

Learning Objective 2: 

Identify the roles of interdisciplinary teams, trauma systems, and specialized programs (e.g., rehabilitation teams, CAPC) in optimizing care for pediatric trauma patients.

Learning Objective 3: 

Explain evidence-based strategies and best practices for promoting safe, comprehensive, and family-centered care, including prevention of complications, wound care, C-collar management, and psychosocial support.
