Course Description 

This educational session will provide nurses with an overview of the specialized services that support pediatric brain tumor patients throughout their care journey. Participants will learn how disciplines such as child life, speech therapy, physical therapy, psychology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and medical providers collaborate to optimize patient outcomes. This session will also review the bedside nurses' role in coordinating care across specialties. Interactive pre-and post-assessments will reinforce key concepts and provide an opportunity to discuss clinical rationales.

Learning Objectives

  1. Nurse fellows will have a basic understanding of the ways in which each specialty supports the brain tumor patient including child life, speech, physical therapy, psychology, and physical medicine
  2. Nurse fellows will discuss the role of the bedside nurse in working alongside each specialty
  3. Nurse fellows will complete the Specialty Care pre and post test and discuss rationales as certification exam practice
