Preceptor Workshop (2025)
The Preceptor Workshop is designed to help registered nurses enhance their skills and knowledge to effectively precept and improve patient care. Participants will integrate the ICOACH model to foster collaboration and introspection, assess their emotional intelligence to manage interactions better, and review adult learning principles to tailor teaching strategies. The course will also emphasize effective communication strategies, focusing on feedback and conflict management to strengthen interactions with patients, families, and healthcare teams. By clarifying the roles and responsibilities of preceptors at Children’s National Hospital, the workshop ensures participants are prepared to deliver safer, more effective patient care.

Learning Objective 1: Integrate concepts of ICOACH model into the preceptor roles of socializer, role model and educator
Learning Objective 2: Assess personal emotional intelligence and personality traits to identify areas for improvement in managing patient and colleague interactions effectively.
Learning Objective 3: Apply adult learning principles and communication strategies to develop tailored teaching methods that enhance preceptorship and improve learner engagement in the clinical environment.
