Overview
The H/O Essentials course provides the oncology, hematology, palliative care, blood marrow transplant foundation of knowledge for the nursing care of children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood disorders for new RNs. The lectures provide an overview of disease specific content and process, chemotherapy administration, and nursing considerations. Experienced CCBD RNs taking the CPHON exam benefit from a review course, contributing to greater confidence and higher pass rates in CPHON exam. All attendees will receive CNE credit in pediatric Hematology/ Oncology, which are required to take the CPHON exam. The Hematology/Oncology Essentials Core Curriculum will help CCBD move toward a 75% certification rate of eligible RNs.

Learning Objective 1: Analyze the purpose and components of chemotherapy electronic orders (CPOE) to enhance patient safety.
Learning Objective 2: Compare the special features of CPOE systems to optimize chemotherapy accuracy and safety.
Learning Objective 3: Apply CPOE knowledge in case scenarios and simulations to address chemotherapy treatment challenges.
