2026 Children's National Pediatric Acute Care Point-of-Care Ultrasound Workshop

This introductory point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) course is designed for novice learners in pediatric and neonatal acute care. Participants will gain foundational knowledge of POCUS applications used in the evaluation and management of critically ill infants and children through a combination of didactic instruction and hands-on scanning practice.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify appropriate indications for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the evaluation of ill or injured infants and children.
  2. Demonstrate basic image acquisition techniques for FAST, cardiac, lung, and procedural POCUS applications.
  3. Distinguish between normal and abnormal POCUS findings in pediatric and neonatal patients.
  4. Apply POCUS findings to support clinical decision-making in the management of ill or injured infants and children.
