Dr. Aylward graduated from Southern Illinois School of Medicine and completed his pediatric and child neurology residencies at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Following completion of his residencies he joined The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Nationwide Children’s Hospital and is board certified in child neurology and epilepsy. He is currently a Professor of Pediatrics in the department of Neurology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital / The Ohio State University.

He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Pediatric Neurology, co-director of quality improvement in the department of Neurology and the director of the Pediatric Intracranial Hypertension clinic. The clinic is the first clinic devoted solely to pediatric patients with this disorder. The clinic has grown into a multidisciplinary clinic held on a weekly basis and includes team members from the specialties of psychology, dietary, neurology and ophthalmology.
