Marie Nolan, PhD, RN
In May of 2022, Marie T. Nolan, PhD, RN, FAAN was appointed Dean and Ordinary Professor in the Conway School of Nursing at The Catholic University of America. Dr. Nolan has also held leadership positions at Johns Hopkins University and The Johns Hopkins Hospital including Executive Vice Dean, Department Chair, and Director of the PhD Program at The School of Nursing and Core Faculty Member of the Berman Institute of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins University. At the Johns Hopkins Hospital, she served as Nurse Researcher for Nursing Administration, Co-Chair of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Ethics Committee and Consultation Service and member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Her research for over 20 years has focused on supporting the healthcare decision making of patients with terminal illness and their family caregivers and has included interventions, measurement and theory development. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and edited two nursing texts.
Since coming to the Conway School of Nursing, together with the faculty, she has overseen the advancement of the Nurse Practitioner Programs from the MSN to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) level and the development of a Nursing Leadership pathway from a new Master of Nursing Science in Complex Healthcare Systems Administration to the Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. She has also worked with clinical partners develop tuition support programs to address the critical nursing shortage. Dr. Nolan’s research and work in nursing education is grounded in the dignity of the human person as the foundation of a moral vision for nursing and healthcare.
