Course Description

This 6.5-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course focuses on recognizing the patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and appearance that show there might be a problem rather than focusing on specific illness. Participants are taught the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE) that they can apply to non-crisis and crisis scenarios.

Target Audience

Learning Objectives

  1.  Describe the purpose of Youth Mental Health First Aid and the role of the Youth Mental Health First Aider.
  2.  Recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use problems that may impact youth.
  3.  Explain the impact of traumatic experiences and the role of resilience on adolescent development.
  4.  Apply the appropriate steps of the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE) in a crisis and non-crisis scenario.
  5.  Practice appropriate methods for self-care following the application of YMHFA in a crisis or non-crisis situation.
