Course Description

Increase knowledge and skill to provide safe and quality care on Surgical Care Unit as it relates to emergency evacuation, care of child post-anesthesia, trach care, discharge teaching, pain management, pressure injury prevention, safe patient transfers using Hoyer lift, and burn care.

Target Audience

Nurses

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the SCU nurse will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate patient evacuation procedures during an emergency
  2. Verbalize criteria for post-anesthesia pediatric patient transfer to acute care.
  3. Demonstrate trach care and intranasal suctioning.
  4. Verbalize PRN pain medication regulatory requirements.
  5. Identify pressure injury preventions strategies when caring for the patient with Orthopedic devices
  6. Demonstrate safe patient transfer using the Hoyer lift.
  7. Demonstrate how to wrap burn dressing for hands, faces and shoulders
