ForwardStress First Aid Training 10.21
The goal of this activity is to enhance team members’ ability to identify and appropriately respond to acute and cumulative occupational stress using the Stress First Aid (SFA) framework. High acuity clinical environments require sustained attention, effective communication, and reliable teamwork; unmanaged stress can impair cognitive function, decision making, and patient safety. This activity provides participants with evidence informed strategies to recognize early indicators of stress in themselves and colleagues, apply the seven SFA actions, and incorporate brief support interventions into routine clinical workflows, handoffs, huddles, and post event debriefings. Learners will improve their capacity to promote psychological safety, support team resilience, and activate institutional resources when higher level assistance is needed. By strengthening individual and team responses to stress, this activity aims to reduce human factors related to safety risks and enhance the delivery of consistent, high quality, patient centered care.

Learning Objectives
- Team members to identify at least two components of the Stress First Aid (7 Cs) model to support recovery and maintain functioning.
- Assess common stress responses in high-risk clinical environments and identify Stress First Aid principles to provide peer support and facilitate connection to appropriate resources.
- Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to identify and access at least three organizational wellbeing resources and determine appropriate situations in which to connect themselves or colleagues to those resources.
IPCE: This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 4.0 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credit for learning and change.
