Course Description
The Preceptor Workshop is designed to help registered nurses enhance their skills and knowledge to effectively precept and improve patient care. Participants will integrate the ICOACH model to foster collaboration and introspection, assess their emotional intelligence to manage interactions better, and review adult learning principles to tailor teaching strategies. The course will also emphasize effective communication strategies, focusing on feedback and conflict management to strengthen interactions with patients, families, and healthcare teams. By clarifying the roles and responsibilities of preceptors at Children’s National Hospital, the workshop ensures participants are prepared to deliver safer, more effective patient care.
Pre-Work Requirement (Must Be Completed Prior to Attending the Workshop)
Participants are required to complete the Preceptor Development Curriculum prior to the workshop. This curriculum outlines the competencies, performance criteria, and related learning activities of the Preceptor Development Program, including the core competencies of the five preceptor roles: Socializer, Educator, Evaluator, Conflict Resolver, and Role Model.
