Hair for You: Enhancing Nursing Practice Through Comprehensive Hair and Scalp Care
Establish a practice standard competency that supports proper hair care and scalp assessment for hospitalized adolescents and children of every ethnicity. In keeping with the goal of health equity and the scientific basis to address these needs, all patients should have the ability to care for their hair in a way that is culturally congruent and informed by the biologically based needs of their hair texture. We aim to decrease systemic inequity, lack of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior along with providing a comprehensive curriculum, changing policy, and aligning practice. Creating a culture that understands differences in ethical and cultural practices and traditions, and formalized bias training. Care team members will be empowered with the tools and knowledge they need to improve care outcomes for their patients by delivering culturally and socially sensitive hair care to them
