Gene-ius Breakthroughs: Advances in Sickle Cell Therapy on Thursday 11/14/24
Up until now, the majority of treatment options for sickle cell disease were not curative, and primarily targeted symptom/complication management. The only curative option was hematopoietic stem cell transplant, which can have lifelong implications for the patient. Recently, however, two new gene therapies were FDA approved for the treatment of sickle cell disease. This CE will evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment options for sickle cell disease with a focus on the gene therapies.
