Course Description

This course enhances RN and patient care technician preparedness for hospital Code Orange and Code Green events by clarifying roles and responsibilities during emergency response. Participants will receive hands-on training in decontamination (DECON) space setup, including safe donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE), and will practice mass casualty triage and essential lifesaving interventions relevant to the emergency department setting.

Learning Objectives

  1. Accurately assess and triage incoming patients during Code Green and Code Orange simulations by applying mass casualty triage principles to determine injury severity and prioritize life-saving interventions.
  2. Demonstrate and apply proper decontamination procedures, including safe setup of equipment and correct donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE). 
  3. Collaborate effectively within the team to assign roles, perform patient decontamination, and communicate clearly throughout the simulation.
