Clinical Considerations in AI
The goal of this activity is to enhance clinical psychologists’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in assessing and addressing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among children, adolescents, and families in clinical settings. Participants will learn how to differentiate between developmentally appropriate, adaptive uses of AI and patterns of use that may be problematic or associated with functional impairment or risk. The session will also provide practical, evidence-informed guidance on how to discuss AI use with patients and families, including strategies for promoting healthy engagement, mitigating potential harms (e.g., overreliance, misinformation, privacy concerns), and integrating AI-related considerations into routine assessment and treatment planning. Ultimately, this activity aims to support clinicians in delivering safer, developmentally informed, and ethically sound care in the context of rapidly evolving digital technologies.
