Erica Kaye, MD, MPH, FAAHPM

Erica C. Kaye, MD, MPH is Director of the Quality of Life and Palliative Care Research Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is a physician-scientist triple boarded in pediatrics, pediatric hematology-oncology, and hospice and palliative medicine, and her research platform centers on improving communication between clinicians and children with serious illness and their families. Dr. Kaye received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Yale, her Medical Degree from Harvard, and her Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins with a focus on qualitative and mixed methodologies. She completed her pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital, followed by two subspecialty fellowships in pediatric hematology-oncology and hospice and palliative medicine at St. Jude. Dr. Kaye is a prolific scholar and thought leader at the intersection of pediatrics, oncology, and palliative care, who has authored more than 150 publications and multiple text chapters. Her academic work has been continuously funded by the National Palliative Care Research Center and the National Cancer Institute, and she has received numerous national awards and recognition for her scholarship, including the AAHPM Emerging Leader in Hospice and Palliative Medicine Award and the AAHPM Early Career Investigator Award. Dr. Kaye is the past Chair of the AAHPM Research Committee and current Chair of the AAHPM Research & Quality Committee, where she leads initiatives to develop and grow programming to support serious illness research on a national scale.
