Eleanor Mackey, PhD

Eleanor Mackey, PhD, is a child psychologist at Children’s National Hospital, director of Academic Affairs and Research in Psychology and Behavioral Health and director of Mental Health Services in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. She is also a professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Pediatrics (with award of tenure) at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. She has an active research program in the areas of behavioral health in obesity and diabetes, with a particular emphasis on the use of mindfulness-based interventions. Over the years, she has worked extensively with children and teens, focusing on those with chronic health conditions such as severe obesity, type 2 diabetes, and type 1 diabetes. She specializes in weight management, self management of type 1 diabetes, and eating and exercise behaviors.
Dr. Mackey earned her PhD from the University of Miami. Her academic journey included completing an internship and subsequently her fellowship residency at Children’s National from 2006-2009 where is now a faculty member as part of the Division of Psychology. This division is one of the largest psychology teams in the region with an exclusive focus on children and teens.
