Difficult Airway Course 05/15/2026
Course Description
This difficult airway course focuses on recognizing signs of a challenging pediatric airway and applying effective strategies for bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation and adjunct airway use to maintain airway patency. Participants will assess the need for advanced airway management and develop competency in using specialized equipment for pediatric patients. The course also provides hands-on training in needle cricothyrotomy, with participants demonstrating proper technique and the use of jet insufflation to deliver oxygen in emergent airway situations.

Learning Objectives
- Assess for signs of difficult pediatric airways. Participants will apply strategies for effective BVM and adjunct airway use to maintain pediatric airway.
- Assess need for advanced airway management and apply skills with advanced equipment. Participants will be competent to use advanced airway equipment when working with pediatric patients.
- Assess need for needle cricothyrotomy and demonstrate proper technique to manage a pediatric airway using cricothyrotomy. Participants will demonstrate the proper procedure and use jet insufflation to deliver O2 to lungs.
