Course Description

The goal of this activity is to update the team on best practice guideline and care for patients with high acuity issues. This education will include care of patients with neurological emergencies, advanced care of patients in status epilepticus, updates to care of sickle cell crisis patient, and education and updates to use of new IV fluids in DOTM, as well as advanced settings in use of the Hamilton Ventilator. There will be simulation of a neurological emergency for a critical care transport patient.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will accurately assess patients presenting with neurological emergencies and sickle cell crises by identifying key clinical findings and prioritizing interventions through simulation-based scenarios
  2. Participants will apply evidence-based interventions for neurological emergencies and sickle cell crisis in the transport environment by demonstrating appropriate clinical decision-making during simulation and return demonstration
  3. Participants will demonstrate safe management of ventilated patients and initiation/management of ne IV medication therapies by correctly performing required skills and adhering to protocols during return demonstration.
