Brief Biography

Paula, a Clinical Social Worker by academic training, is Co-Founder of Kaiser Permanente Southern California (SCAL) Bioethics Program and served as its Program Director from 2007 – 2024. She has also served as Bioethics Director for the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Service area for 25 years, having done over 3000 ethics consultations over the years. Paula has served as the Co-Chair for Kaiser Permanente Inter-Regional Medical Ethics Committee providing health care ethics leadership on a national level.

Paula is the Co-Founder of the San Diego County Medical Society Bioethics Commission and has served as its Co-Chair since its inception in 2007. Additionally, Paula serves as an Ethics Consultant for the Academy of Medical Aid in Dying, and most recently, was nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for The Council on Program Accreditation for Clinical Ethicist Training.
