ED Code Team Training (2026)
Course Description
This educational activity is designed to prepare Emergency Department RNs to learn roles and responsibilities of care for critical medical and trauma patients. Learners will review emergency medications, critical equipment, and standardized response protocols utilized during high-acuity code events. Through case base scenarios presenting to the code bay, participants will enhance clinical judgement related to pathophysiology, anticipatory care, and protocols.

Learning Objectives
- Compare roles and resources available based on levels of trauma or medical activations
- Demonstrate the correct first four steps for each role during a medical or trauma activation.
- Analyze trauma mechanisms in relation to potential injuries to anticipate patient outcomes and care
- Apply appropriate nursing interventions to address identified life-threating conditions during a medical or trauma resuscitation scenario.
- Apply knowledge and skills learned in medication lecture during code room simulations.
- Report patient assessment findings, interventions, and changes in patient status clearly and timely to the interdisciplinary trauma team during a simulated medical or trauma scenario.
