Troy Jacobs, MD MPH FAAP
Dr. Jacobs is a pediatrician serving for 15 years as Senior Medical Advisor through 4 contracts at USAID’s MCH & Nutrition office in the Global Health Bureau. He has experience in community & primary health care; MCH quality improvement; implementation research; and learning health systems in a variety of countries in Africa, Asia, and the US. From December 2022 to December 2023, he was detailed to USAID’s PHC initiative “Primary Impact.” His global health work started in 1999 living in Ethiopia as a practicing pediatrician and continues to focus on East Africa and emerging health issues and disasters. He also is adjunct pediatric faculty at George Washington University/Children’s National Medical Center where he focuses on clinical, safety, and quality improvement issues impacting immigrant and poor children in the DMV. He is an active member of American Academy of Pediatrics and recently finished being the State QI mentor for the Maryland Lead Screening Extension of Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) QI collaborative (2022-2023). For the last decade, he has been a volunteer physician with the DC and Maryland Medical Reserve Corps providing surge support during emergencies (including the Covid pandemic). His former roles include County Health Officer, Medical Director, epidemiologist, clinical faculty, and outpatient pediatrician. He has worked for CDC, Carter Center, universities, FQHCs, and county governments. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, pediatric residency training and Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars fellowship from University of Washington, and MPH from Columbia University. He is board-certified in pediatrics and licensed in California, District of Columbia, and Maryland. He has additional certification in BLS and PALS. With his free time, he runs, hikes, and is an urban beekeeper. He is active in getting Lumbee Tribe federal recognition and doing genealogy for mixed race families particularly in SC and NC.
