I am a Professor of Pediatrics and have been involved in the management of children presenting with inflammatory conditions affecting the heart. An example is Kawasaki disease (KD) in which I am involved locally and nationally through the international KD registry (IKDR) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC). I have helped modify KD algorithms within my center and developed a pathway to treat those with coronary artery aneurysms. I also take pride in having developed the key driver diagram of the KD MOC managed by the ACC quality network. I have been at the front line at my center helping adopt and respond to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic. Early in the pandemic, we, KD experts, were worried about delayed or missed KD diagnosis and drafted an awareness letter to the pediatric community to keep KD in the differential diagnosis when encountering children who present with fever. Little did we know that a few months later a systemic inflammatory illness, now called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), that has features similar to KD would arise. Building on my experience with KD, I immediately helped organize our center’s MIS-C task force and developed cardiology specific guidance for inpatient and outpatient follow up. I have been invited to discuss KD and MIS-C at local CME conferences and nationally with the IKDR and now I serve as chair of the International Kawasaki disease registry steering committee
