Ashleigh Harlow, PhD, RN

Ashleigh B. Harlow received her Bachelor of Nursing Science from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2008. She worked as a direct care nurse in pediatric intensive care and pediatric cardiac intensive care settings, including at Children's National.
In addition to her BSN, Dr. Harlow obtained a Master’s Certificate in Leadership Development from The George Washington University and a doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Duke University. During her training, Dr. Harlow was awarded support through the James B. Duke Fellowship, the Duke University Scholars Fellowship, Sigma Theta Tau, the Duke University School of Nursing, and the National Institutes of Health: National Institute for Nursing Research. Her work focuses on parental self-efficacy during pediatric cardiac hospital care, and the influence of parental participation and social determinants of health on parents' engagement in their children's care. She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at Nemours Children's Health in the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science.
Ashleigh has been recognized for her leadership and scholarship through several organizations, but she is proudest of recognition from the HeartSong Foundation and the DAISY foundation, both of which were patient-nominated and related to her work in the CICU at Children's National. Ashleigh and her husband John reside in Durham with their three children, Julia, Jude, and Joy.
