Heather Walsh is the simulation program manager at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. She recently received her PhD in Nursing at the George Washington University. Her research explored racial microaggressions among nurses, and how experiencing workplace racial microaggressions impacted nurses’ ability to deliver safe, quality patient care to children, and negatively impacted RN job satisfaction and wellness. She was the nursing lead in the development and implementation of a novel, simulation-based curriculum, the Interprofessional Debrief on Racism, Equity, and Microaggressions (I-DREAM). She is currently planning an interprofessional simulation-based curriculum entitled Simulation Addressing Verbal Escalation (SAVE) Training, which focuses on de-escalating parents/ caregivers applying a lens for equity.

Heather received her MSN from George Mason University and completed the Master Teacher Leadership Development Program at the George Washington University. She is the past secretary of the Phi Epsilon chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and an advisory board member of Ready.Sim.Go, a company focused on patient family caregiver education powered by simulation. She has authored several publications evaluating interprofessional learning using simulation and is currently writing a book chapter on debriefing in an inclusive manner.
