Hematology Oncology Essentials Core Curriculum 2026
Course Description
The H/O Essentials course provides the oncology, hematology, palliative care, blood marrow transplant foundation of knowledge for the nursing care of children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood disorders for new RNs. The lectures provide an overview of disease specific content and process, chemotherapy administration, and nursing considerations. Experienced CCBD RNs taking the CPHON exam benefit from a review course, contributing to greater confidence and higher pass rates in CPHON exam. All attendees will receive CNE credit in pediatric Hematology/ Oncology, which are required to take the CPHON exam. The Hematology/Oncology Essentials Core Curriculum will help CCBD move toward a 75% certification rate of eligible RNs.

Learning Objectives
- Apply core principles of pediatric hematology/oncology nursing practice—including chemotherapy administration, symptom management, and patient/family education to clinical case scenarios to support readiness for independent practice and preparation for the CPHON® certification exam.
- Describe the pathophysiology, treatment modalities, and nursing considerations for common pediatric hematology/oncology and blood and marrow transplant conditions in order to provide safe, evidence-based care to children, adolescents, and young adults.
