Troy Jacobs, MD MPH

TROY A. JACOBS, MD, MPH, FAAP is a general pediatrician tackling wickedly complex maternal and child health issues globally and in US. With a career spanning 17 years as USAID Global Health Bureau Senior Medical Advisor, his work experience encompasses QI/implementation science, evidence-based policy development, and collaboration with local stakeholders, UNICEF, and WHO to support children in adverse environments across various African and Asian countries.
Dr. Jacobs has been actively involved in on-the-ground disaster and crisis response, particularly in Ethiopia, Haiti, Somalia, and US. His recent efforts in Ethiopia focused on integrating trauma-informed care, mental health, and psychosocial support into conflict-sensitive health programming, primary care, and community health settings. Domestically, he is dedicated to improving pediatric primary care quality and safety for immigrant and poor children. Dr. Jacobs serves as adjunct pediatric faculty at George Washington University/Children’s National Medical Center. He also serves as a physician member on the Montgomery County Commission on Health and is a FEMA-trained medical provider for the Maryland Medical Reserve Corps. He is active in both AAP DC & MD chapters as well as several of AAP’s national councils and sections (COICFH, SOGH (ICATCH, Humanitarian Pediatrics Subcommittee), SOEPHE, and COQIPS).
He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, pediatric training and Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars fellowship from University of Washington, and MPH from Columbia University. He is board-certified in pediatrics and licensed in California, District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. He is BLS, PALS certified.
