Lecture Description:

This Grand Rounds lecture, delivered by Dr. Pascal Amedro, inaugural Dunn Family Professor of Cardiac Research, will explore the evolution of pediatric cardiac rehabilitation and exercise medicine across chronic childhood diseases. Drawing from over a decade of multicenter European experience (QUALIREHAB program), Dr. Amedro will highlight the evidence supporting hybrid (center- and home-based) exercise interventions, the integration of patient-reported outcomes, and digital tools for long-term follow-up. The session will also discuss how these concepts are being adapted and implemented within the Children’s National Heart & Lung Center to create a unified pediatric exercise medicine program.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the principles and clinical benefits of exercise-based rehabilitation in children with congenital or chronic diseases.
  2. Review key evidence and implementation strategies from the QUALIREHAB network.
  3. Identify opportunities to integrate hybrid rehabilitation and telehealth tools into U.S. pediatric care models.
