Joseph Raho, PhD
Dr. Joseph A. Raho, Ph.D. is Clinical Ethicist at the UCLA Health Ethics Center, Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Vice-Chair of the UCLA Santa Monica Ethics Committee. He provides ethics consultation at four UCLA medical centers, engages in hospital policy review and development, and teaches clinical ethics. Additionally, he has held adjunct faculty appointments in the Masters of Bioethics programs at Creighton and Loyola Marymount University and is an affiliate member of the Section on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy with a concentration in bioethics from the University of Pisa, Italy (2014) and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical ethics from the UCLA Health Ethics Center (2016). Prior to graduate school, he worked (2006 – 2009) with the President’s Council on Bioethics in Washington, DC, during the tenure of Dr. Edmund Pellegrino, M.D. Dr. Raho’s research interests include clinical ethics, especially end-of-life issues, organ transplantation, and pediatric bioethics. His work has appeared in the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, Journal of Medical Ethics, Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics, and American Journal of Critical Care, among others.
