Michael Gaies, MD MPH MS

Dr. Gaies is a Professor at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is the Samuel Kaplan Kindervelt Chair in Cardiology, Division Director of Cardiology, and Executive Co-Director of the Heart Institute.
He received his MD and Masters of Public Health from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health in 2002, and MS in Health and Healthcare Research from the University of Michigan in 2013. He completed pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2005 and served as Chief Resident in 2005-2006, and was as a clinical fellow in Pediatric Cardiology and cardiac intensive care at the University of Michigan until 2010.
Dr. Gaies is the founder and former Executive Director of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4), an international quality improvement collaborative. He is a health services researcher whose interests center on defining and understanding variation in clinical outcomes and health-care resource utilization between cardiac surgery centers, and implementing interventions to reduce observed variation. He also is the co-founder and co-Director of Cardiac Networks United, an organization that integrates data and provides QI support to multiple congenital cardiac registries and quality improvement collaboratives.
