Ryan Davies, MD

Dr. Davies is currently a Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Director of Pediatric Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Children’s Health (Childen’s Medical Center Dallas). He specializes in neonatal and congenital heart surgery as well as the treatment of heart failure, including mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation. He has extensive experience with the use of both short and long-term mechanical circulatory support in pediatrics, including complex congenital heart disease patients with heart failure. His research interests include the use of both local and national datasets to evaluate outcomes and construct risk models for children undergoing cardiac surgery generally and more specifically within the context of cardiac transplantation. He has authored over 130 research articles in pediatric, congenital, and adult cardiac surgery. He currently serves as a reviewer for leading journals, including: Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, ASAIO Journal, and Circulation, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. In addition, he has held leadership position in numerous organizations, particularly in the field of transplantation. He recently completed a term as the Chair of the UNOS/OPTN Thoracic Organ Transplantation Committee, and has participated on several ad hoc and working groups within UNOS evaluating the geographic impact of allocation policies, and the use of data metrics to improve the efficiency and outcomes of transplantation in the United States.
