Afsoon Gazor, PhD
Afsoon Gazor, PhD, is a pediatric psychologist within Children’s National Hospital, serving in the Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplantation Divisions. She also serves as an assistant professor of pediatrics and psychiatry and behavioral sciences at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her clinical interests include developing psychological interventions which help patients and families adjust to hospitalization and into survivorship. This includes the role of sleep to coping and adjustment of patients and their family members while hospitalized, and interventions to improve their sleep and other wellness outcomes outside of the hospital.
Dr. Gazor is part of the Brain Tumor Institute (Neuro-Oncology) and conducts new patient screens to help identify areas for psychological intervention to facilitate long-term psychosocial functioning. Dr. Gazor supervises advanced graduate psychology externs and post-doctoral psychology fellows in the hematology/oncology, and blood and marrow transplant psychology training program. She also helps in the selection of trainees and organization of training activities.
Dr. Gazor earned a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center. She completed a psychology internship at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Children's Medical Center Dallas, where she focused in pediatric health psychology and child/adolescent psychology. She completed her clinical child psychology fellowship at Children's Medical Center Dallas, focused in pediatric health psychology in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
