Jennifer Verbesey, Surgical Director, Pediatric Kidney Transplantation

Jennifer E. Verbesey, MD, is board certified in general surgery and specializes in kidney/pancreas transplantation for adults and children, and live donor nephrectomies. Dr. Verbesey is the Director of the Living Donor Kidney Transplant program at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, the Surgical Director of the Pediatric Kidney Transplant program at Children's National Medical Center, and an associate professor of surgery at Georgetown University Medical School. She also serves as the fellowship director for the MGTI transplant surgery program.
Transplant surgery combines what Dr. Verbesey considers to be the best parts of medicine, science and technology, the need for complex decision-making, and the opportunity to help others while building lasting relationships. Focusing on the living donor kidney program allows Dr. Verbesey to develop long-term relationships with both kidney donors and recipients. Thanks to the latest medical advances, she's able to make matches using organs that at one time would have been considered incompatible. She and her team specialize in compatible transplants, ABO incompatible transplants, and kidney swaps and exchanges. She has done enormous work extending all of these innovations to the pediatric end stage renal disease population in the DMV area.
