Maria Arroyo Morr
Dr. Maria Arroyo is a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist and Director of the Complex Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Program at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she also serves as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at George Washington University. In her leadership role, Dr. Arroyo oversees the clinical, educational, and administrative functions of the Severe BPD Program, guiding a multidisciplinary team that provides specialized care for infants with complex lung disease due to prematurity. She plays a vital role in the coordination and transition of technology-dependent patients—from intensive care to home—through individualized care strategies, equipment planning, and support services. Her work spans inpatient and outpatient settings, including the Rehabilitation & Specialized Care Hospital (RSC), where she ensures safe and effective discharge planning for ventilator-dependent children.
Beyond her work in BPD, Dr. Arroyo also serves in the Multidisciplinary Neuromuscular Clinic, collaborating with specialists across neurology, rehabilitation, nutrition, and respiratory care to evaluate and manage pulmonary complications in patients with neuromuscular disorders. She is deeply involved in strategic planning with hospital leadership to improve care coordination and ensure quality transitions from ICU to home. Her responsibilities also include the recruitment and training of clinical staff, oversight of credentialing processes, and timely expert consultation on complex pulmonary cases. Dr. Arroyo is committed to advancing research in neonatal lung disease and to mentoring the next generation of pediatric specialists.
