Series Description
To improve patient safety by allowing healthcare professionals to practice critical skills and teamwork in their actual clinical environment, identifying potential system flaws, and enhancing response to high-risk situations, all while utilizing familiar equipment and procedures within the emergency department. Medical emergencies are not part of everyday practice in radiology; however, when they occur the medical team need to react swiftly to assess the patient, manage the care, and escalate until an emergency response team arrives which may include code response team, rapid response team or EARS team in the main hospital.
Target Audience for the Activity
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Assess a deteriorating patient using a structured approach (ABCDE).
Learning Objective 2: Create a shared mental model by apply interprofessional team performance techniques (e.g. closed loop communication and SBAR) during simulation and in clinical practice.
Learning Objective 3: Demonstrate use of the escalation algorithm to escalate patient concerns (e.g. Watcher, Rapid Response activation, EARS, Code Blue).
