Series Description

Medical emergencies are not part of everyday practice in the ambulatory and inpatient peri-op setting; however, when they occur the medical team need to react swiftly and manage the care until an emergency response team arrives which may include code response team, rapid response team or EARS team in the main hospital.

  1. Recognize a patient experiencing an intraoperative or post-operative complication (e.g., malignant hyperthermia, laryngospasm) 
  2. Perform appropriate initial interventions to stabilize patient  
  3. Demonstrate effective escalation (initiate EMS) and team communication
