Single Ventricle Physiology: Dr. Puente

  1. Describe the physiology of hypoplastic left heart syndrome and the stages of repair
  2. Recognize states of shock in patients with single ventricle physiology
  3. Determine initial steps in management for patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome in the ED

Strokes - Dr. Arrate

  • Discuss the approach to the history and physical exam for patients presenting with stroke concern.​
  • Differentiate ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes by pathophysiology, risk factors, and characteristic imaging findings.​
  • Summarize the differential diagnosis and underlying etiologies of stroke presentations.​
  • Describe the recommended initial diagnostic workup, including optimal imaging strategies.​
  • Outline evidence-based treatment windows and acute management options for ischemic versus hemorrhagic stroke.​

Review the current emergency department “Code Stroke” protocol and its application in clinical practice.​
