Lower Extremity Splinting Workshop:  Jennifer Tran and Emily Willner

1. Describe the general principles of splinting material and application

2. Formulate a plan for immobilization of common upper extremity fractures using the following splints:

  • Posterior short leg
  • Stirrup
  • Posterior long let
  • Knee immobilizer
  1. Practice the application of the following upper extremity splints:
  • Long leg posterior
  • Stirrup

EM/HM:  Dr. Branson and Dr. Frost

  1. Evaluate the evidence for use of IM epinephrine and Mg boluses (including

multiple doses) in status asthmaticus

  1. Consider when nebulized albuterol may be preferable to MDI albuterol,

weighing evidence with practical considerations in the hospital setting

  1. Review the PEWS scoring system and criteria for asthma management on the

acute care floor

  1. Discuss how PEWS/criteria for acute care floor admission should or should

not impact an ED disposition decision
