Kavita Parikh, MD MSHS
Kavita Parikh, MD, MSHS, is a board-certified Pediatric Hospital Medicine attending at Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC. She was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics with Tenure at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2024. Dr. Parikh serves as the Research Director of the Division of Hospital Medicine and Medical Director of Quality and Safety Research at Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC.
Dr. Parikh completed undergraduate training at Brown University, received her medical degree from Cornell Medical College, and then completed her residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She completed her Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship at Children’s National Hospital, and joined faculty at Children’s National Hospital in 2008. Dr. Parikh is a health services and patient-oriented researcher with expertise in both large database research and patient/family-centered clinical trial design. She is committed to a career as an independent researcher in patient-centered outcomes research and completed a career training award through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Her active research portfolio includes R-level grants funded by AHRQ and NIH to study disparities in pediatric safety events, address disparities in health outcomes for children with asthma and lead a health equity research education. Her interests include improving inpatient care, hospital to home transitions, and addressing disparities to advance healthcare equity.
Dr. Parikh also serves in national leadership roles, including National Conference and Exhibition Planning Group for the American Academy of Pediatrics and Executive Council for the Pediatric Research in Inpatient Settings (PRIS) Network. She previously served on the steering committee for the Value in Inpatient Pediatrics (VIP) Network and Hospital Pediatrics editorial board. Dr. Parikh is also Co-Director of the national NIH-funded HEAR-PHM (stands for Health Equity in Academic Research within Pediatric Hospital Medicine) which is a research education program focused on building research capacity within Pediatric Hospital Medicine for advancing health equity.
In recognition of her contributions in quality and safety in pediatric hospital medicine, Dr. Parikh was honored with the 2016 Pediatric Hospital Medicine Award for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, and the 2020 Pediatric Hospital Medicine Outstanding Research Award. In 2023, she was awarded the Mentoring Award for Excellence in the field of Clinical Science at Children’s National Hospital. Dr. Parikh is actively involved in mentoring students, trainees, and faculty, and has a strong interest in faculty and inter-professional development.
