Michael Sexton, MBChB, MPA-ID

Dr. Michael Sexton is an Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in trauma.
Prior to his work as a psychiatrist, Michael enjoyed a career in Emergency Medicine, International Development and Public Health. He worked for the UK National Health Service before moving to Rwanda where he worked as a physician educator for Partners in Health. He then moved to the US to undertake a Masters in International Development at Harvard Kennedy School and subsequently worked as a Health Specialist at the World Bank where he oversaw the Ebola Emergency Response Project in Sierra Leone.
Having sorely missed direct patient interaction, he decided to return to clinical medicine as a psychiatrist, completed residency at GW and fellowship at Children’s National, where he now works as an attending.
He takes pride in being a psychiatrist who is comfortable with both psychotherapy and med management. His interests include trauma, working with children within the foster care system, psychotherapy, and medical education. At Children’s National he leads the Trauma Clinic and trauma education of fellows.
