Lecture Description: 

Dr. Claudia R. Morris will discuss the 25-year history of arginine therapy from bench to bedside in patients with sickle cell disease and vasoocclusive pain . The presentation will highlight mechanisms-of-action, pharmacokinetics, phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials of a novel amino acid therapy that was awarded orphan designation status for the treatment of sickle cell disease from the FDA in May 2024. Challenges with current clinical trials design for sickle cell disease acute pain studies will also be highlighted together with future direction for the field.
