Kristen Miller, DrPH, MSPH, MSL, CPPS is Co-Director of the MedStar Health Center for Diagnostic Systems Safety, Senior Scientific Director of the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and Affiliate Faculty at Georgetown Innovation Center for Biomedical Informatics. She is a clinically oriented human factors researcher focusing on diagnostic safety, decision making, informatics, and healthcare delivery interventions. Dr. Miller is experienced in a wide range of analytical techniques, including formative and summative evaluations, observational studies, surveys, simulation, and interpretation and application of study results to practice and policy. She incorporates both industrial engineering and cognitive psychology with a systems lens, from organizational culture to characteristics of individual patients. Her work includes meaningful, active collaboration with patient partners, families, caregivers, and frontline teams and the evaluation of ethical, legal, and policy implications of health information technology. Her teaching experience includes capstone director of the Georgetown Executive Master’s in Clinical Quality, Safety, and Leadership; and faculty for the Georgetown Master’s in Health Informatics and Data Science, Georgetown Medical School, and Academy of Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety (AELPS). Dr. Miller supports promising clinical investigators through mentorship on two NIH K99 awards, mentor of an NIH T32 Cancer Population Science Training Program, co-director of the MedStar Health Research Institute Research Scholars Program, co-director of the Georgetown Medical School Research Intersession, and mentor for the NIH Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Research Diversity (AIM-AHEAD).
