Sahira Long, MD, IBCLC
Dr. Sahira Long is a board-certified pediatrician and lactation consultant, and a Fellow of the both the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine, where she is a Professor of Pediatrics. She provides primary care services at Children’s National Anacostia in medically underserved Southeast Washington, DC. She serves as the Associate Division Chief for Faculty Development in the Division of General Pediatrics and the Medical Director for the Children’s National East of the River Lactation Support Center.
Dr. Long has been involved in breastfeeding advocacy on the national, state and local level. She has served as president of the DC Breastfeeding Coalition since its inception in 2004. Dr. Long is currently a member of Executive Committee of the AAP Section on Breastfeeding where she serves as the Policy Chair. She previously served as a member of the DC Lactation Commission (2016-2024) and as Co-Chair for the United States Breastfeeding Committee’s CRASH Committee that oversees the organization’s diversity and inclusion efforts. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Conference Program Planning Committee.
