Series Description:

The goal of this weekly Pediatric Critical Care educational series is to maintain and expand participants' knowledge base in pediatric critical care medicine while incorporating new and emerging evidence, clinical practices, and procedural skills into patient care. Through the review of current literature, case-based discussions, morbidity and mortality conferences, quality improvement initiatives, multidisciplinary presentations, and expert-led educational sessions, participants will remain current with advances in the field and their application to the care of critically ill infants and children. This activity is designed to enhance participants' clinical knowledge, diagnostic reasoning, procedural competence, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Learners will critically evaluate emerging evidence, integrate evidence-based guidelines into clinical practice, recognize opportunities to improve patient safety and quality of care, and implement best practices that reduce practice variation and improve patient outcomes. By fostering continuous learning and reflective practice, this educational series supports the delivery of safe, effective, equitable, and family-centered care for critically ill pediatric patients.

Learning Objectives:

1. Critically appraise emerging pediatric critical care literature, clinical guidelines, and quality improvement data to determine their relevance and applicability to clinical practice.
2. Apply current evidence, best practices, and evolving therapeutic and diagnostic approaches into the management of critically ill infants and children.
3. Evaluate complex pediatric critical care cases to optimize clinical decision-making, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient safety.
4. Develop practice improvement strategies that promote standardized, evidence-based care, reduce practice variation, and improve patient and family outcomes in the pediatric intensive care unit.
