Lecture Description:
Through two decades of global health research on arboviruses we have become proximate to the social, structural, environmental determinants of risk and will discuss the story of our work from infectious disease surveillance to tackling the plastic pollution crisis using community-based activation.
Learning Objectives:
- To identify mechanisms by which climate change can promote the emergence of vector-borne diseases.
- To illustrate the power of community interventions to prevent disease transmission in Kenya.
- To define steps to become prepared to address shifting geographic burdens of vector-borne disease, including increasing surveillance and early-warning systems.
- To explore what actions health professionals can take to identify and protect patients vulnerable to these diseases.
