Session Description: 

Dr. Madsen will provide the origin and history of pediatric acute care cardiology in the context of new pediatric clinical subspecialties such as cardiac ICU and Hospital Medicine. This will lead to a discussion of the current state and successes of pediatric acute care cardiology, with particular focus and attention to specific aims and aspirations for the future.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Participants should be able to describe the origins and history of pediatric acute care cardiology and why it evolved as a new pediatric cardiology subspecialty.
  2. Participants should be able to highlight the specific gains of pediatric acute care cardiology patients secondary to the establishment of acute care cardiology as a specialty.
  3. Participants should be able to explain the describe the upcoming innovations for pediatric acute care cardiology.
