Lorenzo Norris, MD
Dr. Norris currently serves as Chief Wellness Officer for the GW Medical Enterprise, Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Administration for George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), and is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the GWU Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Since arriving at GWU in 2006, Dr. Norris has held a variety of leadership positions, including Director of the GW Hospital Consult Liaison Services, Medical Director of Psychiatric and Behavioral Services for George Washington University Hospital, and Associate Residency Director for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He regularly publishes papers in academic journals and has presented at many academic symposiums and national meetings on themes of cancer survivorship and brief psychotherapy modalities. Dr. Norris currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the MDedge Psychiatry Advisory Board, a component of the larger WebMD multimedia health information platform and services.
In his role as Chief Wellness Officer, Dr. Norris has administrative and clinical oversight of the GW- Resiliency and Well-being Center (R&WC), as well as the multitude of services for students, residents, faculty, and staff. The R&WC emphasizes the incorporation of integrative medicine and whole-person care principles for the prevention and treatment of a variety of occupational stress-related conditions such as burnout, moral injury, attrition stress, and demoralization.
Dr. Norris currently serves on the American Psychiatric Association Committee of Continuing Medical Education and Lifelong Learning (CMELL) and is the Chair of the APA Committee on Burnout and Well-Being. Dr. Norris has previously served as a member of the American Psychiatric Association Council on Psychosomatic Medicine; Dr. Norris is the former two-term DC Chapter President of the Washington Psychiatric Society and served on the Katzen Cancer Research Center Board of Directors. Dr. Norris was the recipient of the Leonard Tow 2011 Humanism in Medicine Award and has been recognized as a Washingtonian Top Doctors for multiple years. Dr. Norris has been elected to membership in the American College of Psychiatry (ACP).
