Marc Hershenson

Dr. Hershenson is Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Hershenson was born in Chicago. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois, receiving his M.D. in 1981. He completed his pediatrics residency at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital in 1984. He took fellowships in both Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Pulmonology at The Children’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Hershenson joined the faculty of the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1989. He joined the University of Michigan Medical School faculty in January 2003.
Dr. Hershenson’s research focuses on viral-induced asthma exacerbations, and the potential role of early life viral infections in the development of asthma. His work combines cell culture, animal models and human subjects research. Dr. Hershenson has written 165 original research articles. He currently holds two NIH grants to support his work. He continues to work as a pediatric pulmonologist at Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.
